A teenage beauty queen captured the eye of the netizens after she was spotted selling “pilipit” or twisted bread to her neighborhood in Borongan City, Eastern Samar.
Monika Afable was crowned as the Sinulog Festival Queen in 2020 and now being called as ‘humble queen’ on social media due to being not ashamed to peddle goods.
Her grandmother, Sisa Balan couldn’t hide her happiness to see her granddaughter working regardless of being topped as a magnificence queen.
In an interview, she decided to sell pilipit because she wished to earn cash for herself and her family amid the pandemic.
“We started selling again yesterday. I help my grandmother in preparing and I also sell it. Half kami nang kikitan-in kasi gusto ko mag save kasi kulang pa yung pera ko pang bili ng puppy hehe,” she said.
According to her, she’s not ashamed of what she’s doing.
“No, I am not ashamed. My grandmother always told me that you should not be ashamed of anything as long as you will not harm anyone. I also love helping my family, help my grandma, because by this I can help her and I love to see her smile,” she said.
Thousands of netizens praised Afable for her humility.
