That is why many Filipinos have calmed down with the wish of a congressman to remove crosses from hospitals in the country. SAGIP Party-list Representative and House Deputy Speaker Rodante D. Marcoleta wants the placement of these crosses and images of Saints in hospitals to be optional.

He has already passed House bill no. 4633 entitled “An Act Making Hanging of Religious Mementos Such as Crucifixes, in Hospital Suites Optional”. According to the legislator these crosses and images in hospitals are Catholic symbols.

He added that this may be normal for many of us but it can be an issue regarding religion because it is clearly the symbolism of only one particular religion. In our country which is really sensitive to religious issues, he wants non-Catholic patients to be more comfortable in their bedroom or hospital room.

“Expression of faith is a basic right enshrine in the constitution and is promoted by all good religion. We should be tolerant and respect all people otherwise, there will be division among people,” Pahayag ng isang netizen.

“Hindi po ito ang dapat unahin. I believe that there is a need to address regulatory issues concerning hospitals at this point so as the health workers can focus on ministering to the needs of s!ck people.” Dagdag pa ng isa.

“For me, no need for this, magsasayang na naman kayo ng oras sa mga hearings, like sa pag-shutdown sa network na umpisa pa lang alam mo na ang kalalabasan dahil sa galit ng iisang tao lamang, na naki-ride on at gumanti na rin ang mga may hidden agenda!” sambit pa ng isang netizen.

The legislator is a well-known member of the Iglesia ni Cristo or INC religion and is also one of the congressmen who criticized the ABS-CBN franchise renewal.
